Elections, what are they all about? Simply and succinctly, they are about “The Future!”

This photo of my grandson, Ben, reminds me of this point, but also calls me to recognize elections are also about our responsibility as citizens to leave a lasting legacy of prosperity and opportunity to our children and grandchildren.

This legacy must be grounded upon principles and values which offer a framework for which our heirs may excel.

Will our children and grandchildren have the opportunities that we have known and enjoyed? Will they find a world which moral and ethical principles matter?

Will they find “justice for all” in their society as we declare in our Pledge of Allegiance?

Will they “hold these truths self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among them are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?”

Will they know a nation that is humbly and gratefully “under God?”

I certainly hope so and will do my best to uphold these beliefs. I believe in God, the sanctity of Life and the good stewardship of God’s bountiful creation.  I believe in faith, love and grace. I believe in family and community. I believe in our country, state and our people. I believe also in justice, equality, fairness, opportunity, integrity, the rule of law and most importantly, hope.
